IT'S A FREE SPEECH SEARCH ENGINE When the Founding Fathers gave the world the First Amendment, they understood how important it would be. The fact that it was written in plain language, which anyone could understand (and which didn't require lawyers to interpret) shows that they knew that free speech would need to be safeguarded against establishment intrusion. Grollige tries to honour their intentions. Just as Thomas Jefferson would have wished, free political speech is respected, while rabble-rousing, pornography and other forms of undesirable speech are not. IT'S FAST The next time you do a Google search, check the 'search time taken' that Google gives. You'll often find that it's in the region of 400-500 ms. Grollige is many times faster - between @100 and @10,000 times faster depending on the type of search. Because each search takes less time, more searches can be conducted with the same equipment. IT'S EFFICIENT Google has been reported as using as much electricity as the city of San Francisco. Forbes reported in 2020 that Google uses more power than Zambia or Sri Lanka. Grollige uses less electricity than an average U.S. household. It's true that Google invests heavily in Carbon Offsets, but these just move the consequences of energy consumption elsewhere. They don't do anything to reduce the overall amount of energy consumed. IT'S ETHICAL Ethics are a personal consideration, but Grollige doesn't use cookies and doesn't record any personal data for use in 'marketing'. Grollige doesn't index web pages from unethical sources. We also don't exclude web pages from our index because someone may consider them to be misinformation. That's your decision to make, not theirs (or ours). IT'S HONEST Because we don't rank web pages exclusively on technical content, the opportunity to 'game' search engine results is reduced. This prevents large organisations from purchasing search engine placements simply by virtue of being able to afford expensive SEO. It also means that poor quality web pages which are written specifically to game algorithms (e.g. 'portals') do not achieve a high ranking. IT'S PRIVATE We don't record your IP address, and therefore can't communicate it to any third parties. But bear in mind, if you click on an advertisement, we exercise no control over that conversation. IT'S SPECIALISED Grollige deals with politics and current affairs only. If you want to search for computer hardware, local tradesmen, directions to your sister's new house, celebrity gossip or sports, then this won't be the search engine for you. IT'S SELECTIVE Other search engines seek to scrape the entire internet. At Grollige, we only index the pages that we consider most relevant. This allows us to avoid the 'filler' pages on the internet, which many sites include merely to pad out their content. IT'S CATEGORISED Grollige enables you to choose the political category from which you will see search results. No more labouring through articles from sources that you disagree with! If you're progressive, you won't need to see Fox News or the Daily Mail any more. If you're conservative, you won't be seeing Wikipedia or the BBC. AND FINALLY, WE DON'T CARE WHAT THE ESTABLISHMENT THINKS Despite their protestations to the contrary, most search engines seek establishment approval. This may be because they fear potential government regulation or it may be because they think that the establishment view is shared by most people. While Grollige will always obey the law, we will not bow to extra-legal government pressure such as has been seen in various countries. If a government wishes that certain speech should not be heard, then it can pass legislation to that effect. Then their electorates can see what they are up to. Grollige will not facilitate censorship "by the back door".
